Chapel Hill wants sculptors

Artists who create three-dimensional artwork of a scale and material suitable for outdoor display are invited to apply for the 9th annual Sculpture Visions Exhibition in Chapel Hill.

Selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium for the exhibition of their work.

The program is administered by the town’s Public and Cultural Arts Office. The pieces will be displayed in publicly accessible outdoor spaces belonging to the Town of Chapel Hill and other sponsors between October 2012 and June 2013.

North Carolina artists are encouraged to apply, but artists from any state may enter.

There is no entry fee. Deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012.

Charlotte public art opportunity

Charlotte’s Arts & Science Council is accepting qualifications from local and regional artists for a public art opportunity at a new police division building.

Budget for the project at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Eastway Division Building is $30,600. Submissions must be received by May 22 at 5 p.m.

The art may include two- or three-dimensional works incorporated into the entry plaza walls or pavers, pilasters at the building entry, or within the landscape or fencing facing Central Avenue. Artists in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia are invited.

The city wants the art to reflect both the police department and the neighborhood it serves as well as create an appealing facility that addresses and welcomes neighborhood residents.

Millstock 2012

Clayton Visual Arts, Inc., invites artists and craftspeople to participate in Millstock on June 2. The beginning-of-summer arts festival will be held on Horne Square in downtown Clayton. See and print the 2012 Millstock brochure here.

Art and Food Festival

The 2012 Art and Food Festival, presented April 27 by the Johnston County Arts Council, is now accepting entries from artists. See and print the 2012 Art and Food Festival prospectus here. Applications are due April 9, and entry fee is $25.Prizes totaling $350 will be awarded.

2013 Art exhibition season

Clayton Visual Arts, Inc., seeks artists for the 2013 monthly exhibition season, which begins in February at The Clayton Center in Clayton, N.C.

Interested artists are invited to apply for a show by sending a resume, a portfolio of 4-6 images, and an application fee of $10 to the Clayton Visual Arts Exhibits Committee.  A submissions deadline, to be determined later, will be in September 2012.

Submitted images may be in .jpg format, on CD, or on a specified website. All images must be representative of the type of work the artist plans to exhibit. Entries will be accepted by postal service or email.

Exhibitions are scheduled on a monthly basis, and art work hangs in the main lobby of The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St. The shows are open to the public daily and evenings.

Only works that hang on a wall will be considered at this time. One-, two-, and three-person shows, as well as group shows (four or more artists), will be considered.

Applicants will be notified in October 2012 of the committee’s choices. At that time a date will be confirmed for the artist’s show, and he or she will receive a written Artist’s Contract and Exhibit Guidelines from Clayton Visual Arts, Inc.

An exhibition fee of $35 per artist will be required to help with the costs of the reception, invitations, and publicity for each show, to be paid when the Artist’s Contract is signed by artist and by Clayton Visual Arts. Group shows (four or more artists) will require an exhibition fee of $10 per artist. Make checks payable to: Clayton Visual Arts. In addition, a donation to CVA of 20% on all art works sold will be asked.

To introduce each new exhibitor to the community in the 2013 season, Clayton Visual Arts will host a free public reception each month on the first or second Thursday. The organization has scheduled exhibitions and receptions at The Clayton Center since the building opened in 2003.

The Clayton Center is the central public building in this Johnston County town and houses the Town Council Chambers, utility offices, city offices, meeting rooms, and an active, 600-seat performance center. It receives hundreds of visitors each day.
