Lori Ann Martin of Clayton is a native North Carolinian, born in Raleigh and reared in New Bern and Fayetteville. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and has been a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years.
From a young age, amateur photography has been an intense hobby. During 20 years of United States Navy service, Lori Ann had the opportunity to enjoy photography in places near and far, including the Soviet Union early in her travels, Europe, Africa, northern Canada, and our own amazing North Carolina.
Her landscape, nature, and travel photographs have earned her local and international recognition.
She won first place in the David Thomas Charitable Trust Writing Award British Photo Contest for scenes of the Cornwall, England, countryside. While stationed in southern Spain, she had numerous travel articles published in the European edition of the Stars and Stripes newspaper. She has been published several times in Raleigh in The News and Observer’s “Your Best Shot” photographic feature.
One of her polar bear photographs was one of only five photos selected by Natural Habitat Adventures to celebrate 2015 International Polar Bear Day.
Photography has been my great love as long as I can remember, starting with a tiny 110 camera in junior high school. Most of my interest nowadays is held by the amazing nature in my own backyard in the Cleveland area of Clayton.
Through my Navy travels, I have seen amazing sights to capture through the camera lens. Freezing a moment in time of a bird in flight, a drop of dew on a blossom, or the cuddles of a mother and baby is a thrill.
Photography is relaxing for me, allowing me to take the time to be a part of our beautiful world for a few moments or a few hours.”
It is a great honor to share my photography with the Clayton community through Clayton Visual Arts.
