Vicki Rees

Vicki Rees is a Raleigh artist who specializes in contemporary realism executed in colorful oils.

She draws inspiration from her appreciation of the beauty found in the everyday. Unusual angles, dramatic lighting, and nature’s intricacies all capture her attention.

Her body of work includes “NC, Naturally”, “Sweet & Savory”, “’scapes”, and “Flights of Fancy”.

A fifth collection – “Side Trip” – journals her 2012 adventures with breast cancer.

Vicki’s work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina and is in collections in the South and Midwest. She is a member of Raleigh’s Visual Art Exchange and the Fine Arts League of Cary. She works from her home studio, which is open by appointment.

Originally from Indianapolis, Vicki moved to North Carolina after a 20+ year stop in Kentucky. She and her husband live in Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood and enjoy being within walking distance of many of the city’s First Friday art gallery venues.

Artist Statement

After a 30-year break from the creative community, I am fortunate to re-pursue my muse and experience the wonder of making colors, shapes, and paint strokes bring life to canvas.

One of the subjects I especially enjoy painting is fresh food, whether posed on my kitchen counter or found in the bakery case. Others may see an unremarkable tomato, but I envision a star waiting for its close-up.

My inspiration comes from an appreciation of the beauty found in the everyday. Unusual angles, dramatic lighting, and nature’s intricacies all capture my attention.

No political statement or social commentary here. Just an appreciation for good ingredients, well prepared, and colorfully presented.
